Questions and answers about the war:

Q. What happened to Tariq Aziz, the Iraqi deputy prime minister who often served as a spokesman for Saddam Hussein?

A. The U.S. military says it doesn't know if Aziz is dead or alive, but he's on their wanted list; he's the eight of spades in the military's card deck of wanted Iraqi leaders. Aziz's two-story mansion in Baghdad has been pillaged, with thieves taking light fixtures, appliances, wall sockets, chandeliers, furniture and carpets.

Q. How many generals are in the U.S. Army?

A. As of Jan. 31, there were 304: nine full generals, 38 lieutenant generals, 107 major generals and 150 brigadier generals.

Q. How many planes does an aircraft carrier carry?

A. Carriers have an average of 75 aircraft. They are organized into squadrons for different types of missions.

Q. How long does it take for mail to get to military personnel in Iraq?

A. It can take up to two weeks for mail sent from the United States to reach the military postal system in Kuwait. From there, it is distributed to the troops.

Associated Press researchers Rhonda Shafner, Julie Reed and Barbara Sambriski contributed to this report.
